Question:
i'm just wondering, you know when you pass an electric current through
water, Hydrogen and oxygen are split apart right?
I need to confirm something not stated in websites i visited on google.
What factors increase the speed of which water is seperated into oxygen and
hydrogen atoms? any of these? - Pressure? voltage? Current? Sound-vibration,
frequency?
also wondering, can you perform electrolysis in pure water vapour or ice?
sorry for these basc questions... i don't do chemestry.. so i'm pretty new
to this..
Answer:
-Increasing the temperature of the electrolyte will also boost the
efficiency. Some of the thermal energy is used for the electrolysis. For
detials, see: Fuel From Water by Peavey. -Ions such as from table salt (Na+ & Cl-) decrease the resistance and
increase the current at any given voltage, so will the presence of dissolved
salt increase hydrolysis also?
