Epilight hair removal?

Question:
I just spoke to a company here in LA that does hair removal with a light source they claim is not laser call epilight. they say it is permanent, offer a guarantee, done by a MD, and was recently approved for permanent hair removal by FDA. Has anyone tried this, heard of it, or ???

Answer:
-Epilight is a flash lamp manufactured by ESC, which to my knowledge has not been cleared to make claims of permanence, especially in this country. Please contact me with information on precisely who told you it was permanent, when you heard this, and exactly what they said. I'll do more checking to make sure they weren't FDA-cleared in the last month or so, but if you have specifics, let me know. Please see my website on hair removal for transgendered women for a discussion of Epilight's light-based hair removal: www://members.aol.com/jokestress/zaplaser.html I believe no laser or other light-based hair removal has met its burden of proof for claiming permanence. You may read the results of my research at the above site. In the meantime, I recommend probe-based electrolysis as the only proven permanent hair removal method. If you cannot afford to risk your time, money, or skin on unproven technology, invest in traditional electrolysis. -I had treatment by the Dr. FizPatrick at San Diego County Dermatrodist as thier experiment last year. According to them, there were several TS patient they treated, one of them was myself. My first treatment was June 1996 about 30 minits because they wanted to know different areas of my face; upper lip, lower lip, chin, cheek. Then I had another treatment 3 weeks later same areas of my face. Third treatment was quite painful because Dr. Smith tried to increase more powerful (duration of the light) or I am not sure. That was quite painful and left discoloration. I felt damaged my skin, next day that was terrable burn like and did not heal about 2 weeks, but result was good. Most my facial hair was gone. Finally 4 weeks later, last treatment was less powerful/week pulse or lights that made me less painful. At that time, my facial hair came back almost 50%. Follow up was one month later to count my regrowth rate by the assistant, and took several picutres at that time my facial hair regrowth rate about 70 %. I believe the lather treatment was effective only short time solution, however my chin area's hair and side burn areas became noticeablly thin. uppier lip area about 70% of regrowth rate. Cheek areas about 60 %. I think Epilaser is short term solution for 4 treatment. I believe 4 sets of treatments which 16 treatments would be remove my facial hair permanently, but my facil skin will not tolelate the pulse or light.
