Question:
I'm going to begin HRT in a few weeks and am also researching laser hair
removal. I'd love to hear any thoughts or experiences anyone in here may have
had with laser or perhaps guide me to a site or sites that will give me more
solid information on the subject.
Answer:
-I've had 9 sessions under the laser now. I'm undergoing beard removal.
Although it has DRASTICALLY reduced my facial hair, the light ones don'r go,
and I still have some dark one.
I'm going every two months and things are looking promising.
You can read more on my home page at http://www.mascarabrush.com. It's just
a homepage on Geocities with a fancy address, not a commercial site.
-There have been some consumer reports and published studies since my last
laser update that indicate that some patients experience stable reduction in
the diameter and sometimes color of hairs. One study suggested laser was 60%
faster in the course of treatment than electrolysis, but I have a few issues
with the comparison. However, these studies did not look at androgen-induced
facial hair and usually had limited follow-up.
This suggests that laser might be worth a shot for body hair if you have
money to gamble. Some have reported that laser was a good kick-start to
their facial hair removal, but all required switching to electrolysis
eventually. It's a question of diminishing returns. If hairs get lighter,
laser is less effective.
My site was written for TS women who want to pass and integrate into
society. We have much higher expectations than some for whom passing may be
less of a concern. I'm not against laser, but those looking to commit time
and money to hair removal need to consider how much time and money they can
afford to waste in the event it doesn't work for them. Going to an
inexperienced electrologist or trying laser hair removal are like rolling
the dice, and you won't know the outcome for a few years.
For those who want to pass (not the "pass going through the Burger King
drive-thru"-type, but "pass with a sex partner who doesn't know your
deal"-type), you're going to want a method that gets rid of all hairs. I
have friends who pass fine till you touch their faces. Then their claims of
being "done" don't hold up as well. If you want hair gone, go to a TG
experienced electrologist recommended by a client who is done and happy.
If you're going to try laser, I recommend looking into alexandrites like
GentleLase, or maybe the newer diodes. Prices keep getting better-- I have
