Question:
I have a hairy back. I have tried Nair, Silk Epil(rips it out!) and
shaving, but I always break out. I have heard that electrolysis does not
work and it is very time consuming and costly. I have recently heard about
laser hair removal(softlight). Does this work or is it a scam? Other
alternatives?
Answer:
Laser hair removal is a bit of a scam, since studies have shown that its
"permanence" is less than "forever", as is so cheerfully advertised by its
proponents; in fact the majority of folks can look forward to regrowth
within 6 mos to a year. It's a pretty major waste of money if this is so.
The best way to remove unwanted hair from a large area is waxing, which is
much less expensive. Breakouts are caused by infections from ingrown
hairs, so to avoid this exfoliate the area frequently. After waxing the
hair will grow in finer and sparser, since you've ripped the little suckers
right out of their follicles and it takes them a while to recover (plus
some just give up the ghost and don't regenerate at all).
