Question:
am a 21 y/o female with pcos. I have horrible facial hair on my chin,
well, where a man would have a beard. VERY THICK .. I have no mustache,
only the chin/ jawbone area, and under on my neck.
Today I went to the plastic surgeons office and had my first laser
treatment on this "problem area" and I see NO difference. When I had my
consultation they told me immediate results, like, it would be gone and
for the next couple of weeks it would shed out or something...But I look
the same as when I went in..I can still feel it and see it if I look
close enough...It has actually only been an hour and a half since I had
this..but I have never been an optimistic person when it comes to
this... and am fearing the worst..that all this money will go to waste
when the year of treatment is over, and I will still have this problem.
Has anyone had laser hair removal?? Did it work? How thick was your
hair? When did you see results?? Is it still gone and for how long??
I want the truth, don't try to make me feel better if this isn't going
to work!! Eventually I will find out
Answer:
To start off with. It's really important to have it done with the correct
type of laser. It needs to be a GentleLase or Apogee. All the alexandrite
lasers are generally better than others. If it's a Softlight or Epilight
they don't work. At least this is what most the people I have talked with
have said and what I have experienced. I first tried the Epilight and it
did nothing at all!!! I was out a whole lot of money and very depressed
over it. Not to mention, the physician was nice, but the technician was a
really mean woman. She actually said, "You have more hair then this guy
that was just in here and he had a lot of hair." I can't even tell you how
upset this made me feel.
Here is the chart of lasers from kitty's consummerbeware.com:

After a really long time. I decided to try laser again after becoming fed
up with electrolysis which was costing me a ton of money... Unfortunately,
I found electrolysis highly painful and not very effective even after trying
it out with three different electrolysis places. So I went and had the
GentleLase after reading and talking with a couple people. The first
treatment was very painful! After the first treatment was immediately over
I still saw hair, but after the two week shedding period was over 75% of the
hair was gone!!! I had a lot of hair before that and it was think course
dark ugly hair!!! I can't even tell you how surprised and happy I was to
see it gone. I was able, for the first time in I don't know how many years,
to go a day without shaving! Before that I was shaving at least twice a day
and it was still hard to cover up no matter what make up I used that
includes the Double Wear stuff by Estee Lauder and the Dermablend... The
second treatment I had 3 weeks ago and now the only hair left on my face are
a clear hairs on my cheeks and the hair above my lip. I also have no more
hair on my neck area and a few ones on my chin. I use to have so much hair
I wouldn't let my picture be taken. My face looks almost back to normal!
Oh, and here is the place that I got the most information from before I went
and tried the GentleLase. It's a web discussion board.
