ipl and facial hair

Question:
I have booked in for IPL they use the photorejeuvenation machine... however they have also told me that I would lose facial hair on the areas they Zap! Is this true? Does anyone else have experience of this?

Answer:
Permanent hair loss is extremely unlikely. In fact, the FDA does not even permit such a claim. Electrolysis is the only method that can approach permanent hair removal. Permanent reduction of hair growth is a possibility, however. I've had 11 IPL treatments. Half way through the 1st round... I was able to completely stop shaving in the treated areas. Nothing was growing. Once the treatments ended, whiskers starting popping up en mass within a month and I'm fairly sparse to begin with. If you have a dense beard your experience during tx will likely be less dramatic. Search the internet for laser/IPL hair removal. There are forums filled with patients discussing the false promise of that technology. Your facial hair WILL grow back. To what degree it will be impacted... it's impossible to say. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
