Electrolysis/Hair Removal Questions

Question:
Well, I'm finally considering taking the plunge. After over ten years of irritatedly shaving *everything* below the neck (including my arms) I'm finally considering getting at least some of it removed (probably starting with my legs and then we'll see what happens) *permanently*. What can I say, I just hate body hair. I've tried to call several places that perform electrolysis and "laser hair removal" (which are apparently two completely different processes and I'm not sure which is right for me) and they haven't been very forthcoming. "You'll have to come in for a consultation" etc. I have no problem with this, but it occured to me that before I go shopping around there might be someone on the list who has researched or done this or even knows a little more about it. My apologies if this has come up recently, I'm on and off this newsgroup as my hectic life dictates. So...experiences, advice, horror stories? What exactly *is* the difference between the two procedures anyway?

Answer:
No past experiences here, I'm a wax or razor girl...But...With electrolysis, they stick this little thingy into a hair follicle, and a small electric shock goes down the thingy into your hair follicle, killing that follicle (and only that follicle). It stings a bit, and afterwards you'll often have a minor rash or little bumps resembling (and feeling like) razor burn/ingrown hairs (without the hair), but that lasts less than a day, usually. Nearly cmopletely permanent, however, it is very time consuming, as each hair must be killed individually. Generally what they do is work on an area (bikini, legs, etc) for an hour, then have you come in next week for another hour. I've seen prices range anywehre from $50-$100 per hour, I'm not sure how much gets done in that hour, though. With lasers, they spread this cream on you (though not always, depends no the type of laser), and then run a laser over your skin. It kills most of the follicles (not all, repeat treatmenst are usually needed). It's much quicker than electrolysis, hwoever, it has more side efefcts from what I've heard (you get that rash thing, but it lasts longer), and is more painful. I have no clue on the pricing of laser treatment.
