Question:
REGENIX? Hair analysis lab in Los Angeles. Any opinions?
just talked to many people that have.> > JBMy question is: who did you
talk to? What did you hear? Could you be more specific? Because I've
just started going there and I can't figure out if it really is a scam...
no one to talk to! What's your "scam" evidence?
Answer:
I went to Regenix for a consultation and this is my take on it:
Firstly the guy I spoke to was not a medical doctor, nor did I ever meet one.
The first question in my mind was, how does this guy know what is causing my
hair loss. Ok maybe its obvious in my case, but what about another case.
The consultation was interesting- He showed me a closeup of my scalp and it
showed (thanks to Finasteride and Minoxidil) that there was good amount of hair
all over, although some of the hairs were small compared to the normal hairs.
He then took hair samples under a microscope and it showed the bulb of my hair
follicle with some kind of coating around it, I'm sending it to a derm to get a
second opinion. He said my hair follicle had a coating of debris and I will
lose this hair if I don't remove this debris.
He told me that the treatment involves first cleaning out the debris from your
follicles, and then moving on to a treatment where their product would coat the
inside of the hair follicle and provide a barrier against the DHT, preventing
it from getting to the hair follicle.
This sounded strange since I do not see how a product applied topically like
that can put up a wall to stop DHT from getting to the hair follicle. My
understanding is (I'm not a doctor so correct me if I'm wrong) that DHT would
get to the hair follicles through the blood, or other means along with the
nutrients the hair follicle needs. How does their product then block the DHT
and none of the other hair nutrients.
I then asked him about Finasteride and he proceeded to run it down saying it
was dangerous, caused cancer and sexual problems. He also told me that his
uncle had got really bad gas from taking it. I wanted to laugh as I had never
heard this side effect before.
He recommended a treatment plan that would cost me somewhere in the region of
$2,500 for about 6 months, or around $22 per treatment, in the first 3 months
there would be 2 treatments/ 3 times a week.
The problem I had was that he was not able to show me before and after pics of
people's heads after their treatment program. He said that pics can be faked
and that the clients who were mostly movie stars, did not want the publicity.
The only proof of it working was some single hair microscopic pics showing a
bulb surrounded by debris and one a few months later with less debris.
Bottom line is he never said my hair would regrow, only that I would keep my
existing hair. But if there are no verifiable pictures after 11 years in
business I have a difficult time believing something I can't see.
We all know that the most successful treatment gor hair growth right now seems
to be 5% Minoxidil and 1mg Finasteride, with some people adding in other
producs to the mix.
I'm spending around $60 per month for this treatment which is causing my hair
to grow. Without knowing the ingredients of the products I cannot say they
don't work, but considering that the company has been around for 11 years I
find it astounding that they never took before and after pics of their clients
to document the effects of their treatment. (I do not consider microscopic
single hair pics, a verfifiable means for showing the effectiveness of their
products.)
The bottom line is if you do go with their treatment you will be spending way
more money than you would if you went with the Minox/Finasteride treatment that
is available and has been conclusively shown to work.
