Question:
I saw an ad in Tapestry for a transdermal electrolysis machine from AHRS,
and it sounded really great! No needles, no pain, do it yourself at home,
and be rid of unwanted hair forever! What girl wouldn't go for that?
I called Catkin in Virginia and talked to Melissa, who told me that her
facial hair had been particularly heavy and she's rid of almost all of it
now. The machine is about $4,300.00, and I am fully prepared to purchase
it, provided it checks out. I'm looking for references from anyone who has
been worked on with this machine, or who has purchased it for use in a
practice. I'd like to know how AHRS is to do business with, the cost of
consumables for the machine, and of course, how effective it is.
Answer:
Well, for one thing, electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method
approved by the FDA and the American Dermatology Assn. That ought to tell you
something. And in electrology school they teach that "a painless treatment is a
worthless treatment". Not that the pain can't be reduced to tolerable levels.
Electrolysis is a function of time versus current and if you can't tolerate the
level of pain, you can always ask to turn the current down and take longer. I
also found during my treatments that multiple needle got rid of the hair much
more effectively in the long run than single needle techniques. I had an average
of 2 hours a week on my face & neck since August 1989, and still had about 40%
of it left as of June 1995. Then I attended electrology college & learned how
much more effective multiple needle could be from the owner, who estimated that
in worst cases, single needle could have a regrowth of 95%, while multiple
needle could be as low as maybe 20%. At that point I started insisting on
multiple needle only for myself and the remaining 40% is all but totally gone
now, in just that year.
Keep in mind with all the gimicky mail order catalog widgets, that old saying,
that something that seems too good to be true usually is.
